Fire history in Horten

In a future nature reserve on the border between Västernorrland and Jämtland County, there is a pine-dominated forest that has clear traces of historical fires. In order to learn more about the area, Mittuniversitetet has been commissioned to investigate the fire history.

The fire history in the future nature reserve in Horten has several useful aspects. On the one hand, it is good for the County Administrative Board to have some basic information about an area that is to be protected, and the information about the fire history is also a good help to have as a basis for the management plan to be drawn up for the reserve. For biology research, the project fulfills an important function as it contributes with new knowledge about fire history and dynamics in the region, a research area in which the biology group has broad expertise.
